Gardening classes

Many gardening classes are available this spring through Ridgefield Continuing Education.

Summer Bulbs (Wednesday, April 6, 7 to 9 p.m.. $31) with Laura Stabell focuses on care, planning, and planting of the colorful and varied bulbs.

Vegetable Gardening – Organic (Tuesdays, April 5 and 12, from 10 to noon or Tuesdays, May 10 and 17, from 7 to 9 p.m., $49) with Eileen Burton covers everything from purchasing seeds/plants, growing on, fertilizing, controlling pests to harvesting.

Butterfly Gardening with Eileen Burton (Thursday, April 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., $31) covers what plants to grow to attract various butterflies for feeding all stages of butterfly growth from caterpillar to adult. The presentation includes photos from her garden, internet sources and handouts.

More classes are available in May. Instructor Burton is a horticulturist who has gardened in Ridgefield for years as well as been horticultural manager at Caramoor in Katonah, N.Y. Instructor Stabell is a master gardener, arborist, horticulturist and naturalist whose work has been featured in magazines and on the Garden Conservancy open garden tour. Senior discount available.
