The town’s annual spring clean-up is just around the corner.
On Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10, the Caudatowa Garden Club, Town of Ridgefield, Conservation Commission, Chamber of Commerce and Ridgefield Action Committee for the Environment (RACE), will co-sponsor Rid Litter Days.
“So please, put on some gardening gloves, pick up a safety vest, grab a sturdy garbage bag and hit your neighborhood and/or any area that needs some tender loving clean-up care,” said Molly McGeehin of RACE.
Organizers ask that all litter be placed in dark plastic bags — available at Parks & Recreation and the Chamber of Commerce — and taken to pick-up areas (Farmingville School, East Ridge Middle School, Ridgefield High School and the Fox Hill Lake pick-up area).
Orange ‘Ridgefield Litter Control’ vests are available on loan for safe roadside pick-up. Town trucks will pick up the collected bags on Monday, April 11.
Organizers say that hazardous waste such as paint and batteries and large appliances cannot be accepted and remind that Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is May 21 from 9 to 2 at the Newtown Public Works Garage, 4 Turkey Hill Road.
Since 1992, when the Caudatowa Garden Club introduced rid-litter days in Ridgefield with its “Clean Sweep Day,” townspeople have been ridding its streets, common areas and neighborhoods of litter to honor Earth Day, April 22.
