Six Ridgefield police officers were awarded the Department’s Unit Citation Award at the Police Commission meeting  March 10, for their work in a reckless operation case on Jan. 3.

In the case, a reckless operator in a stolen vehicle caused multiple accidents in the downtown area.

“This was a rapidly evolving situation in which the officers exercised great teamwork and judgement. As a result of these officers’ actions no one was injured and the suspect was arrested. Great job,” said Capt. Jeffery Kreitz, spokesman for the department.

The officers are Officer Dan Gjodesen, Officer Dave Samoskevich, Officer Brian Shimko, Officer Jorge Romero, Officer Lou Caba and Lt. Shawn Platt.

In that case, Mark Bogdanov Johnson, 22, of 1616 Washington Boulevard, Stamford, was charged with first degree larceny, two counts of interfering with the duties of a police officer, assault on public safety personnel, reckless driving, four counts of evading responsibility, failure to obey the signal of an officer, failure to drive right, failure to drive in the proper lane, and following too closely.

An update on the court case was not available.
