Boys & Girls Club of Ridgefield member Catherine Heller was selected as the national winner in the National Fine Arts Exhibit for her mixed-medium piece, “Bells.”

Mike Flynn, director of operations, said, “Catherine is a great mentor to our younger members who are interested in the arts. We are proud of her for her leadership at the club and we are very happy to see her artistic talent recognized at the National level. This is the first time a club member has won a national award in the Fine Arts Exhibit program.”

In order to win, Catherine’s piece was first selected at the Boys & Girls Club of America Northeast Regional Fine Arts Exhibit in Massachusetts this April. It was then submitted to the national competition for 16 to 18 year old club members.

“Bells,” a still life of Catherine’s personal bell collection, is a mixed medium includes colored pencils and paper as a collage. She made the paper herself.

Catherine has been a club member for 10 years. She is an active Keystone Club member and also a club staff member.

Catherine graduated from Ridgefield High School this June and is attending Skidmore College this fall where she will study studio art.
