A Ridgefield man was among the injured the morning of March 22 when a terrorist bombing rocked an airport and subway in Brussels, Belgium.

The man, an executive, was visiting Brussels on international business, and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a source.

The man’s identity is being withheld because of the family’s wishes. The company he works declined to comment on the incident, only to say they do not comment on individuals and all employees had been accounted for.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the Brussels attacks, saying in a post on the group’s Amaq news agency that its extremists opened fire in the airport and “several of them” detonated suicide belts, according to the Associated Press. It said another suicide attacker struck in the subway. The post claimed the attack was in response to Belgium’s support of the international coalition arrayed against the group.

President Barack Obama pledged to “do whatever is necessary’ to help Belgian authorities seek justice.

“We stand in solidarity with them in condemning these outrageous attacks against innocent people,” Obama said in Havana, where he was closing a three-day visit.

In Connecticut, Sen. Chris Murphy condemned the attacks.
