A $500 “Diamond in the Rough” scholarship honoring the memory of Anne Sheehan Doughty, a 1975 Ridgefield High School graduate, will be available for the first time this year to graduating RHS seniors.
“Anne Sheehan Doughty was a funny, adventurous, unpretentious person,” opens the description of the scholarship, which is being offered by her family.
The scholarship form tells of a native Ridgefielder who had a varied career — darkroom technician, chef — before finding her calling helping seniors with dementia as an occupational therapist. She died in 2013 of ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“We believe RHS may hold some people like Anne, maybe not A students, but with something of their own to contribute, and we would like to hear from them,” the invitation to apply reads.
Scholarship applications are available in the RHS counseling center, and must be returned by Friday, May 6.
The scholarship will be presented as part of RHS Senior Awards Night on May 26. Plans are to award the scholarship to a different RHS senior each year.
