Margo Hall Yanik
Margaret E. Hall Yanik, a former Ridgefielder, died July 14, in Hendersonville, N.C., after a brief illness. She was 82 years old and the wife of Alfred Webb Yanik.
She was also the sister of the late Mary Bardwell, a longtime Ridgefielder who had been secretary of the Board of Education for many years.
A native of Maine, Margo Yanik was born Sept. 27, 1930, to Harold M. Starbird and Bessie Slipp Starbird of Solon.
While living here, she was a member of The First Congregational Church and an employee of Perkin-Elmer in Danbury, where she worked on the Hubble space telescope.
“Margo was a scholar, sharpshooter, swimmer, athlete, and woodswoman of highest order,” her family said. “Her studies of mathematics, the sciences, literature, history, and religions, and the diversity of cultures and philosophies began as a child and never ended. She read avidly and loved to travel. She was passionate about education and freedom.”
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter Susan Hall and grandchildren Wiley and Katherine Barton of New Mexico; stepchildren Cathy, Kurt, and Burton Yanik and their spouses and children; and many nieces and nephews, including Chandra, Bob and Cheryl Bardwell.
Besides her sister Mary, she was predeceased by a sister, June Brown of Reading, Mass.; her first husband, Major John A. Hall, U.S.A.F, of Madison, Maine; and a son John E. Hall.
A graveside service and memorial celebration will be held in Maine, at a date to be determined.
