Police dismissal in review

An apparent dismissal of or leave requested by someone at the police department is scheduled for discussion by the Police Commission tonight.

A posting in the town clerk’s office reads:

“The Board of Police Commissioners will meet on Aug. 22, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to examine and render a decision on the proposed non-disciplinary separation of employment of an employee of the Ridgefield Police Department.”

The meeting is scheduled in town hall’s lower level conference room.

Officials weren’t saying much about what’s going on.

State Freedom of Information law allows “personnel matters” to be conducted less publicly than most government business.

Police Commission Chairman George Kain said that whether or not tonight’s hearing is open to the public would be determined by the employee involved.

“This is an executive session meeting and I can only tell you at this time: if the employee requests the hearing to be held in open session, then the meeting will be open to the public,” Mr. Kain said.
