Frank Bruni

Frank Bruni, author of Where You Go Is Not Who You Will Be: An Antidote to the College Admissions Mania, will be the keynote speaker at the final event in a yearlong series of parent education workshops, Parenting the Selfie Generation: Raising Successful Adults, at noon on Sunday, March 6, at the Ridgefield Library.

Bruni says there’s a better way to look at the journey to college and beyond and that “a yes or no from Amherst or Dartmouth” that “is seen as a conclusive measure of a young person’s worth” is “madness and nonsense.”

Bruni will explain just how and why this mania exists and dispel what he calls the myth that happiness and success in life is entirely dependent on the selectivity of a college admission.

Bruni has been an op-ed columnist for The New York Times since 2011 and has authored two best sellers, Born Round, about the joys and torments of his eating life, and a 2002 chronicle of George W. Bush’s initial presidential campaign, Ambling into History.

After his keynote address, attendees may participate in workshops. Admission for the day’s events is $10 per adult; teens are admitted free but registration is required — visit ridgefieldlibrary.org.
