Dr. Kenneth A. Greenberg, of Ridgefield, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016. He was the loving husband of Dr. Barbara E. Safran, and cherished father of Rachel and Daniel Greenberg. He is also survived by his beloved parents Herbert and Carole (Acselrod) Greenberg, his brothers Marc Greenberg and Robert Greenberg, his cherished nephews, and many cousins.
Dr. Greenberg graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After receiving his medical degree from New York Medical College, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Greenberg was a postdoctoral fellow in Corneal and External Eye Disease at the Wilmer Ophthalmologic Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as numerous other professional societies. In addition, Dr. Greenberg was the former Director of Residency Training at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Greenberg was in practice for 25 years in Danbury and Ridgefield, CT and Riverdale, NY, specializing in refractive, corneal and cataract surgery. Recently he was the Global Medical Director, Refractive and Corneal Division, for Abbott Medical Optics, after serving as a medical consultant for VISX, IntraLase and Abbott for over 20 years.
Dr. Greenberg coached baseball in Ridgefield in his free time. He enjoyed walking and hiking, and most of all spending time with his wife and children.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 am at Congregation Shir Shalom, 46 Peaceable Street, Ridgefield, CT. Interment will take place in Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.
