Ridgefield Fights the Civil War, a new class in Ridgefield Continuing Education, tells the story of Ridgefield soldiers and their loved ones on the home front, and how they experienced the heroism, heartache and hardship of the 1861-65 Civil War. Leading characters include the town’s greatest war hero, the officer who was a partner of P. T. Barnum, a Medal of Honor winner, and hotel-keeper Anna Marie Resseguie, whose journal provides insights into Ridgefield life and a window into national events during the desperate struggle that defined the United States. Instructor Charlie Pankenier is the author of two recent studies on the town’s history.
This class meets on Thursdays, Feb. 4 and 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Venus Building (old high school). Snow date is Feb.18. Cost is $49. Ridgefield seniors (age 62 and up) pay $37. Advance registration is required. To register, visit ridgefieldschools.org or call Peggy Bruno at 203-431-2812.
