Gas prices in Ridgefield hit the sub-$2 mark on Monday with at least three stations selling regular for $1.99 or less.

The statewide average according to AAA was $2.006. Valero and Limestone Citgo were both at $1.99. The lowest in town was Pamby’s, which sells unbranded gas, at $1.97 a gallon. The lower prices at all gas stations were for cash only.

Prices at the other Ridgefield gas stations on Monday: Gulf $2.09; Stateline Getty, 2.09; Mobil $2.29, and Shell $2.49.

Prices at gas stations in Danbury ranged from $1.86 to $1.93.

For the state, compared to last week, prices are down a nickel; compared to last month, down 16 cents; and compared to last year, down 28 cents.

The last time Connecticut had average prices under $2 was on February, 2009, but that lasted only two days before the numbers began to climb higher than $2 as part of the fallout from the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme that wreaked havoc in financial markets worldwide.

Nationally, today’s average price is $1.83, down six cents compared to last week; down 18 cents since last month; and down 21 cents since last year.

California and Hawaii continue to have the highest gas prices at $2.67 and $2.63, respectively. Oklahoma and Missouri continue to register the lowest prices in the nation at $1.53 and $1.54, respectively.
