A possible increase in fire department shift minimums, approval of a license agreement reached with the utility Eversource allowing bicycles on the rail trail, and review of the finalized request for proposals seeking an operator for the golf course’s food concession are on the selectmen’s agenda Wednesday night, Jan. 20.

A proposal to increase the fire department’s minimum on-duty shift from six to eight firefighters will be discussed by the selectmen, who act as the Fire Commission, starting at 5:30 in town hall. Following an hour’s discussion of that and other fire department matters, the selectmen is scheduled to meet at 6:30, with a 19-point agenda that includes a presentation on a field safety capital expenditure proposed by the Parks and Recreation Commission, a new ordinance giving the Conservation Commission more enforcement authority over open space violations, and numerous appointments including the Parking Commission, as well as the rail trail and golf course matters.

The fire department shift proposal has previously been estimated to cost in the vicinity of $250,000 a year, and the selectmen have asked Fire Chief Kevin Tappe and Controller Kevin Redmond to give them to look at the costs of different ways it could be done.
