Want to dump Trump? Or chill Hill? Go Marco? Back Bernie? Both Republican and Democratic presidential primaries in Connecticut are scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, and to participate people must be registered with the party the candidate they want to support — or oppose — is running in.

If people now registered in one party want to switch and vote in the presidential primary of the other party, they have to have changed parties at least three months before the voting — Tuesday, Jan. 26.

Thursday, April 21, is the mail-in and online deadline for new voters or unaffiliated voters to join a political party in order to vote in that party’s presidential primary election.

Monday, April 25, at noon is the in-person deadline for unaffiliated voters to join a party and vote, though they must have been unaffiliated for at least three months before joining a party in order to vote in that party’s primary.

The Ridgefield registrars of voters offices in town hall are generally open 8:30 to 4:30 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The registrars may be reached at 203-431-2771 or 203-431-2772.
