The Schlumberger Citizens Committee has launched a second and final community survey to help determine the future of the 30-acre property purchased by the Town in December, 2011.

The Committee was appointed by the Board of Selectmen in last March to gather public input, evaluate options, and make recommendations to the Board. The 9-member Committee has met 16 times since its appointment, and community outreach has included an initial community survey in September (which garnered 1,400 responses and over 1,000 comments) and a public charrette attended by 80. The initial survey indicated high levels of interest in open space and some cultural or civic uses, as well as recovering the cost of the property.  During the charrette, participants reviewed and reacted to conceptual plans depicting a variety of options for the site. The Committee then conducted research on the feasibility these options in order to narrow the focus to a few uses and themes.  Some original ideas have fallen by the wayside because they had little support or could be accomplished at other locations.

“We were impressed with the level of interest in the future of the property demonstrated by the very high response rate we received on the first survey, and we are looking forward to the responses to the second survey, which contains some very specific options.” adds Committee Chairman Dick Larson. The second survey will run from Monday, January 11th through Wednesday, January 27th and can be found at Vision for 30 Acres Survey, www.ridgefieldct.org, or https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Visionfor30Acres.  Paper copies are also available at the library and Town Hall.  The survey will only take about 10 minutes, and the Committee urges all Ridgefielders to participate in this critical step in planning for the future of this important parcel of town-owned land.  A second and final charrette is planned for late winter or early spring, after which the Committee will make its recommendations to the Selectmen.

The Schlumberger Citizens Committee’s meeting agendas and minutes are posted on the Town website and the meetings are open to the public.  They can also be reached by email: SLB30@ridgefieldct.org.
