Fountain is fine, car isn’t

Damage to the Cass Gilbert Fountain island was minor after a collision around 5 this morning. A Toyota Corolla was eastbound on West Lane in the dark and fog when the driver apparently did not see the lighted fountain island. The car hit two of the many concrete planters, placed in the island to protect the fountain. It managed to chip both, but not do any significant damage. Four shrubs were also hit, but did not seem badly harmed. However, the car, which came to a stop on Main Street, had to be towed away by Limestone Irving.—Press photo
