J. Ronald Steiger, III, age 50, died unexpectedly at his home on December 22, 2015 in Sherman, CT. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and three children: Eleanor (15 yrs), Maxwell (13 yrs), and Charlotte (6 yrs).

Born on September 17th, 1965 in Endicott, New York, Ron graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1983, where he competed in baseball, football, and ice hockey. He went on to Rennsalaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating with a degree in Management in 1988, and subsequently earned a Masters of Science degree in Computer Science from New York Polytechnic Institute in 1997. He was Vice President, Product Manager of Intellect Claims for Polaris, Inc.

Ron was an avid traveler, enjoying trips around the globe, and taking every opportunity to spend time with “the locals” wherever he went. He was also a dedicated athlete, completing his second Ironman triathlon in August 2015 in Lake Placid, NY. When not training for a race, he was on the ice in the local men’s pickup hockey league at Canterbury School, carving fresh tracks through the glades on an unnamed trail at Smuggler’s Notch, or preparing for a campout with his family. He was also a fully committed “Parrot Head,” singing the songs of Jimmy Buffet with gusto. Above all other activities, his greatest priority was always the quality time spent with his family and friends.

In addition to his immediate Sherman family, he is survived by his father, J. Ronald Steiger, Jr, of Ridgefield, CT; (his mother, Roberta P. Steiger is deceased); his brother, Scott P. Steiger (wife, Beverly), and their two sons, Phillip (11 yrs), and Simon (7 yrs) of New Fairfield, CT.

A funeral service was held at the Sherman Congregational Church in Sherman, CT. The family is so thankful for the emotional support and outpouring of love at this time.

Arrangements were handled by the Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford, CT.
