Students launch shoe collection drive

RHS juniors Mackenzie Tunnard and Ruby Isley are organizing a shoe collection drive.

“Attention, anyone with a closet: Those shoes you no longer want are desperately needed to fight the tragedy of global poverty,” they say.

For the second year running, Ruby and Mackenzie have launched the drive to collect shoes to help the poor. New or gently used shoes may be dropped off at the Ridgefield Recreation Center or Ridgefield Running Company until Dec. 19.

The shoes they collect will be delivered to Soles4Souls, an international anti-poverty organization that has distributed more than 22 million pairs of shoes throughout 127 countries.

Ruby and Mackenzie are working with Soles4Souls to help the shoes reach local and international orphanages as well as homeless and disaster relief shelters.
