Molly McGeehin, president of the Ridgefield Action Committee for the Environment (RACE), presents Ridgefield’s award of achievement to First Selectman Rudy Marconi.
Ridgefield’s achievements in Connecticut’s Clean Energy Communities (CEC) program were recognized last month at EnergizeCT’s municipal awards ceremony at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, where 148 cities and towns were represented.
Ridgefield was included in the bronze level of achievement in part because the town has cut energy consumption by 9.1 gigawatt hours during the benchmark period beginning January 2010 through July 2015. As a result of Ridgefield’s involvement in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Energy Challenge in 2008, 78 solar panels have been installed on the roof of the Ridgefield Parks and Recreation building.
The salute for pro-active participation in energy reduction initiatives came from EnergizeCT and its partners — the Connecticut Green Bank, Eversource Energy and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Currently, 13% of Ridgefield homes have participated in residential energy-saving programs and 9% of business and municipal energy-saving projects have been completed. More information is available at EnergizeCT.com and by phone at 877-WISE-USE.
