Wild Ponies, the duo of Doug and Telisha Williams, has been making lots of noise in the Nashville area in recent years. Most often accompanied by a drummer and sometimes a fourth musician, they have created songs that tell stories that strike to the hearts of many. With Doug on either acoustic or electric guitar and Telisha on upright bass, their music makes for a dynamic live show and hopefully inspires people to open up about their own life experiences.
They will be performing for CHIRP on Thursday, July 23, in another of the free summer concerts in Ballard Park, beginning at 7 p.m. This concert has been generously underwritten by John Katz, a Ridgefield resident who also donated the golf cart that helps the handicapped to their seats from handicap parking. In the event of inclement weather an indoor venue will be designated and posted by 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Doug and Telisha hail from Virginia where wild ponies freely roam the highlands. Hence the name. Their most recent album, Things that Used to Shine, produced by Ray Kennedy, received widespread acclaim enabling them to finally become full-time musicians. A couple, they have been together since college days. Married in 1998, they came from the same town in Virginia. In 2010 they took to the road in an RV touring and playing more than 100 gigs a year before settling in East Nashville in 2011, where they host a weekly radio show called Whiskey Wednesdays. They also annually offer fans a getaway on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail for a couple of nights with visits to several distilleries, and concerts every night to top it off. Check out wildponies.net where you can sample their music, and learn more about the trailride. Like their concerts, it sounds like too much fun to miss.
