4 — The suspect has been apprehended and is at Danbury Hospital. State police say any charges would follow hospital visit.
1:30 — State Police say the man who they’re looking for assaulted a State Police trooper before taking off on the high speed chase that turned into a foot chase then a search, which remains ongoing.
Trooper 1, the State Police helicopter, along with bloodhounds and Danbury firefighters are helping in the search effort, along with State, Danbury and Ridgefield police. Danbury firefighters are assisting with the use of boats.
State Police Trooper Kelly Grant said an officer stopped the man on I-84 westbound near Exit 1 and tried to arrested him. The man then assaulted the officer “jumped back in the vehicle” and took off into New York State. He then got on Route 22 in New York, where New York police assisted.
Kelly said the driver then got back on I-84, to Route 7 southbound and crashed as The Press reported this morning.
1 p.m. — No update yet. The search continues with multiple canines on scene Saturday afternoon.
Original story — Police are looking for a 39-year-old man who led state, Danbury and Ridgefield police on high speed chase, then fled on foot Saturday morning.
The man was reportedly driving southbound on Route 7 toward Ridgefield from Danbury in a gray Jeep Cherokee at 90 miles per hour when the car crashed or became disabled in the area of Starrs Plain Road in Danbury.
The man, described as a white man with one handcuff, took off on foot.
Police were informed the man had a history of weapons and was on probation.
All three police agencies, with the help of a state police canine, were searching the area.
