Frank A. Serfilippi
Frank A. Serfilippi, 86, of Ridgefield, passed away at his home on June 30, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was the devoted and loving husband of Natalie (Bocchini) Serfilippi.
Frank was born on August 12, 1928 in Ridgefield; a son of the late Alessandro and Ercelia (Buldrighini) Serfilippi. He graduated from Ridgefield High school in 1948 then joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War from 1948 through 1952.
His job in the service consisted of being a flight engineer in training command.
Upon his return he earned a degree at East Coast Aero Tech School in Lexington, Massachusetts. He was hired by American Air Lines but chose to work for his father and brother at A. Serfilippi and Son Construction from 1956 until 1976.
In 1976, he became the director of Public Services in Ridgefield. His responsibilities included overseeing the entirety of maintenance of roadways, town vehicles, and town structures.
He retired in 1996 and pursued with vigor some of his greatest hobbies. He built a cooker that roasted a whole pig or 26 pork shoulders, Italian style. He built another cooker to bake 26 racks of ribs, barbecue style, as well as enjoying his time making homemade supersaut.
He followed in his father’s footsteps making wine, and many came to enjoy it in his wine cellar.
He was fortunate enough to have a motor home and enjoyed traveling the country.
He enjoyed tinkering and was very creative in all projects that he mastered.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church as well as the Italian American Mutual Aid Society, the Ridgefield American Legion, a volunteer fireman, and part of the Disabled American Veterans of Danbury.
Frank is survived by his wife, Natalie of 58 years. He is also survived by his three children: Steven and his wife, Laurie; Sallie Newton and her husband, Scott and Susan Weeks and her husband Tom.
In addition to his wife and children, Frank is survived by his seven grandchildren, who loved and adored their Nono: Douglas, Gregory, Jeffrey, Tommy Frank, Molly, Sarah and Rachel as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, former colleagues and close friends.
He was a wonderful influence on his whole family and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His smile and jokes were with him until the very end and will be sorely missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:15 am at St. Mary’s Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 6, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
