The WCSU interns of the First Congregational Church will present their second annual recital on Sunday, June 21, at 4 p.m. at the church. All students at Western Connecticut State University, the four interns, along with Minister of Music Edwin R. Taylor, have selected at varied program which should provide “something for everyone.”
New to the quartet this year is soprano Katherine Marsh, known as Casey, and finishing her sophomore year as a vocal performance major. She will sing Schubert’s Heidenröslein, one of several lieder on the program, Handel’s O Had I Jubal’s Lyre from Joshua, and Laurie’s Song, from Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land, which was performed at WCSU this spring.
Mezzo-soprano Nicole Marsh, sophomore from Cos Cob, and also a vocal performance major, will sing Waldengespräch by Schumann, and two arias, Gluck’s Che Farò Senze Euridice, and Non So Più Cosa Non from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Nicole and Casey will join forces to sing Mr. Taylor’s arrangement of Robert Lowry’s 19th Century hymn, How Can I Keep From Singing, a tune which has enjoyed renewed popularity after 9/11.
Junior tenor vocal performance major Charles Widmer will sing two Schumann lieder, Im Wunderschönen Monat Mai and Aus Meinen Tränen Spriessen, Vaghissima Sembianza by Stefano Donaudy, and Do Not Go, My Love, by Robert Hageman.
Sophomore Music Education major Austin Scelzo will perform Amarilli, Mia Belli, by Giulio Caccini, Lord God of Abraham from Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha. Messrs. Scelzo and Widmer will conclude the program with Ovid Young’s moving I’ll Sing of Thee.
