The Ridgefield Board of Education June 8 welcomed aboard its newest technology leader, while saying good-bye to more than a dozen veteran employees who have chosen to retire.
The board welcomed Robert Miller as the new director of technology and operations development.
His selection was announced following an executive session at which the final decision was made. He was the unanimous choice.
Miller has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and mathematics from the University of Hartford, a sixth year degree in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, and a doctorate of education in e-learning and teaching online from Northcentral University in Arizona, according to a biographical profile provided by school officials.
Miller has been working for the New Canaan public schools since 2004 as director of information and communication technologies.
He will join the district on July 1.
The board gave recognition during its meeting at the Town Hall Annex to the employees who will retire by the end of the school year, which is later this month.
The retiring employees include Superintendent of Schools Deborah Low, who is retiring after eight years of service.
They also include:
• Susan Bankes, a para-instructor in math with nine years of service at Branchville Elementary School; and Kathryn Wilson, a fifth grade teacher at Branchville Elementary School with 12 years service.
• Thomas moore, a custodian at East Ridge Middle School, with 46 years service.
• Diane Flaconieri, a para-instructor in special education at Ridgebury Elementary School, with more than 10 years service.
• Jane Cappello, a math teacher with 11 years service at Ridgefield High School; Camille Fennel, a business teacher at Ridgefield high School with 21 years service; Courtney Snellings, an English teacher at Ridgefield high School with 12 years service; Domenica Tough, a family and consumer science teacher at Ridgefield High School with 10 years service; and Maura Zeyer, a secretary and bookkeeper at Ridgefield High School with more than 29 years service.
• Richard Taylor, a science teacher at Scotts Ridge Middle School with 13 years service; Elizabeth Terhaar, a science teacher at Scotts Ridge Middle School with more than 14 years service.
• Maria Troetti, a custodian in the central office with 25 years service.
