A bona fide guitar hero and virtuoso of the highest order, Al Di Meola has been recognized over the past 30 years as a prolific composer and respected artist with more than 20 recordings in his arsenal. He returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse with his Elegant Gypsy & More Electric Tour 2015 onSunday, June 21, at 8 p.m.
He, along with his fiery electric band, will deliver the intense jazz-fusion as only this world-class guitar deity can. His lightning-fast guitar licks and dazzling technique have won him legions of fans far beyond the guitar aficionado set.
No. 109 Cheese & Wine will serve a complimentary wine tasting to accompany a local artist’s reception and exhibit in the lobby at 7:15 p.m. Piccolo’s Jazzeria (24 Prospect Street, Ridgefield) will pour a complimentary glass of wine with dinner the night of this event when tickets are presented. This show is part of the No. 109 Cheese & Wine Evening of “Art, Wine and Jazz” Series with media sponsor 89.5fm WPKN.
Di Meola’s latest release, Elysium, features 12 new songs and combines the past with his present state of mind. “My music combines the past with the present, it combines technique with deep feelings and emotions. That’s what I am proud of”, says Di Meola who suffers from tinnitus due to excessively loud playing, favored acoustic guitar for years. He marked his return to the electric in 2006 with a performance at the Leverkusen Jazz Festival, captured on the 2007 DVD Speak a Volcano: Return to Electric Guitar. Recent albums, though, have seen him playing more acoustic guitar. For Elysium, he will bring the electric guitar back to the fore. Many of the songs, he says, will feature his black Gibson Les Paul.
For tickets ($47.50), call the box office at (203) 438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
