JD Souther
JD Souther co-wrote some of the biggest hits for the Eagles, including “Best of My Love”, “Victim of Love”, “Heartache Tonight“, and “New Kid in Town”. Linda Ronstadt also recorded ten of his songs, including “Faithless Love”, “Simple Man, Simple Dream”, and “Prisoner in Disguise”.
He’s considered an architect of Southern California sound and a huge influence on modern songwriting. If you’re a fan of the hit TV show Nashville, you know him for his role as Watty White. This American Songwriting Treasure will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, June 20, at 8 p.m. This event is part of the Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer/ Songwriter Series and xfinity Rock Series.
On his latest album Tenderness, released May 2015, Souther balances his pop and jazz sensibilities paying particular homage to his earliest influences, the geniuses of the 20th Century Great American Songbook, while maintaining the signature qualities that have made him one of the true contemporary giants of American song.
JD has recorded with jazz luminaries Stanley Clarke, Donald Byrd, Chuck Domanico, Johnny Guerin, Chris Walters, Jeff Coffin, Rod McGaha, Billy Childs, Till Brönner, and Lizz Wright to name a few.
He has written with Warren Zevon, Paul Williams, Burt Bacharach, Brian Wilson, Arthur Hamilton, Roy Orbison, Will Jennings, and Jackson Browne. His songs have appeared on more than 150 million records worldwide including Hugh Masekela, Bonnie Raitt, Glen Campbell, Najma Akhtar, George Strait, India Arie, Trisha Yearwood, Bernadette Peters, and Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Souther has received countless Grammy nominations, in addition to Academy of Country Music Awards, American Music Awards, 21 ASCAP performance awards, and the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award in 2009. In 2013, Souther was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and is currently in the studio putting the final touches on his new CD which will be released in early 2015 on Sony Masterworks.
