CHIRP’s 2015 season opens Tuesday, May 26, at 7 p.m. with a group that NPR describes as “Americana darlings with a roadhouse edge.”
The Sweetback Sisters are a band that embodies the broadest of country music designations, playing everything from western swing to rockabilly to honky tonk. The group’s charismatic charm harkens back to the time of the silver screen cowgirl and the girls’ whimsical exterior is wrapped around a core of deeply felt love for traditional country music styles. Their joy in playing and singing together is contagious. This concert is partly funded thanks to the Leir Foundation and the rain venue if needed is St. Stephen’s church.
Note that the rain venue was originally listed as the Ridgefield Playhouse, but that venue is not available due to a scheduling conflict.
NBC New York says “Zara Bode & Emily Miller layer gorgeous girl-on-girl harmonies over swell honky-tonk melodies – the kind that make Loretta Lynn fans weep. Trust us: These guys are brilliant.” CHIRP concurs and is proud to be presenting them for the first time in Ridgefield as we start an exciting new season of twenty-four free concerts that we hope will bring our audience wonderful, enriching and entertaining evenings throughout the summer. For the most up to date information on our concerts “like” us on Facebook at CHIRPCT and/or follow us on Twitter.
For the past thirteen seasons CHIRP concerts have been co-sponsored by The Ridgefield Press and the Town of Ridgefield through its Parks & Rec Department. Now for the second year, CHIRP is thrilled to include Lexus of Greenwich, Lexus of Mt. Kisco and Greenwich Infiniti on its list of co-sponsors. Among the many that make CHIRP possible are also small businesses, foundations and individuals who help to underwrite the cost of the events as well as the hundreds of Ridgefield residents who annually contribute. This season as a result of the passing of one of our more generous underwriters, we are 23% short of our budget needs for the season. So please, if you haven’t already made a donation and you have the discretionary income to help, please write a check to CHIRP at Town Hall, 400 Main Street.
Think how much it would cost to buy two or four tickets for such a concert and remember that with your donation you are helping make it possible for many others in less fortunate circumstances to also attend where otherwise they would not be able. Come out and share the joy of live music with a broad cross-section of the public from Ridgefield and area towns. Make new friends, try our local restaurants, eat early or take out, and be a part of the wonderful community that is Ridgefield.
