Why aren’t people voting? First Selectman Rudy Marconi want to know, and his office has put out a survey in search of answers.
Marconi urged voters to take part in the May 12 budget referendum — he was soliciting votes either way.
“We still need to have you exercise your right and vote,” Marconi said. “Either vote for or against the budget — please.”
Only 1,654 people did, with 16,339.
“My concern about apathetic turn-out came true — about 10%” he said after the votes were counted.
May 20, an intern in Marconi’s office, Caroline Treschitta, has put together a survey to try to find out why people aren’t voting.
