The week of May 17 to 23 has been designated Emergency Medical Services week in Connecticut. Each year in May, EMS week is celebrated throughout the country to recognize the life-saving work the EMS providers, EMTs and paramedic perform.
Here in Ridgefield, the fire department provides paramedic-level ambulance service to the residents and visitors of Ridgefield and responds to approximately 2,700 EMS calls per year, according to fire Chief Kevin Tappe.
“All of our personnel are extremely dedicated to the service that they perform. They are passionate about saving lives,” Tappe said. “We all owe them a big thank-you for what they do.”
The chief said that Ridgefield’s EMS service is known around the area for its quality and is usually in the forefront of new technology.
“Responding to 2,700 calls a year stretches our paramedics to the limit. They are very busy, but some of the new technology has resulted in better patient outcomes,” Tappe said.
