ROP-ROARINGS-4.30-Alianna

Whether you run for training or for fun, a canine companion can be a loyal pacer and an endearing reminder of the joyful things about the sport of running.

Meet Alianna, a sweet, big-hearted, 15-month-old Aussie shepherd mix with a lovely long nose who loves to run.

What are the ideal traits of a four-legged running partner?

Veterinarians recommend the dog be at least 7 months old. When a young pup’s muscles tire, they cannot properly support the skeletal system, which can lead to permanent bone damage. Young, short-haired, medium to large breeds with nice long noses are best, say vets. This includes lean Labradors, herders, setters, taller hounds, sled dogs, greyhounds, or mutts that are a healthy mix of these.
ROAR’s Alianna meets these conditions perfectly, and is eager for daily exercise.
In addition to a vigorous run, Alianna enjoys her toys, treats and other dogs.
What more could one ask for in any dog?

Alianna is up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines and has been spayed and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $250.

Whether you’re preparing to adopt a dog or already have one who matches you stride for stride, it’s mutually beneficial to know how to run/train properly with — and ultimately respect and protect — your canine companion.

The ROAR Donofrio Family Animal Shelter is at 45 South Street, or go to roar-ridgefield.org to learn more about Alianna and all our adoptable dogs and cats.
