Assistant Superintendent Karen Berasi is leaving the Ridgefield school district for a job in Suffield — a job vacated by Ridgefield’s incoming superintendent, Dr. Karen Baldwin.
Superintendent of Schools Deborah Low announced in a statement Friday afternoon that Berasi will become the superintendent in Suffield.
“I am happy for Karen but her leaving is a huge loss for our district,” Low said.
Berasi has worked in Ridgefield seven years. She began as Director of Special Education and was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Special Services last summer.
She has provided both vision and stability for he special education and support services programs, Low said.
“Karen has focused on the students and ensured they receive quality services that match their needs,” Low said.
The job involved unpopular decisions but Berasi earned the respect of both families and staff, Low said.
The district is contracting with CES Search Services to assist with the search for Berasi’s replacement. Baldwin will lead the process, Low said.
Baldwin was named in November 2014 to succeed Low, who is retiring at the end of this school year. Baldwin was previously the superintendent of Suffield schools.
