Aquarion Water Company is again offering for sale discounted rain barrels to its Connecticut customers as part of the company’s water conservation efforts.

Rain barrels are an efficient and effective way to store rain water for later use by collecting rain and runoff from a roof or downspout. They provide a free, ready source of water for filling watering cans, connecting a garden hose, feeding a drip irrigation system and other outdoor chores. One 60-gallon recycled food-grade barrel can consistently irrigate a 100 square foot garden, and only one quarter-inch of rainfall on an average can fill the barrel.

“Rain barrels are great to use during dry periods, even when restrictions are imposed on water usage,” said Charles V. Firlotte, Aquarion president and CEO. “They help homeowners save money, conserve water, and help to mitigate pollution in Connecticut’s water supplies by limiting storm water runoff.”

Aquarion is offering rain barrels to its customers for $75, which is 40% off the regular retail price of $125. To take advantage of this community program discount, visit aquarionwater.com. The deadline for ordering is Friday, May 29. Customers with questions should call Aquarion’s rain barrel partner, Skyjuice New England at 207-363-1505.
