Boating season is near and a class taught by members of the U.S. Coast Guard will cover boat safety and the Connecticut and New York requirements for owning and operating a boat or personal watercraft.
Those who complete this one-day course will be qualified to obtain a Connecticut motorboat operator’s permit, as well as a personal watercraft operator’s permit. The course is also acceptable for the New York boating license.
The course covers general information about boats, preparing for safe and enjoyable outings, navigation rules and aids to navigation, guidelines for operating your boat or watercraft safely, what to do in case of emergencies, and state-specific laws and regulations you must follow.
The course is Saturday, May 9, at the fire station on Catoonah Street from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $70 per person, which includes the About Boating Safely booklet and a variety of safe boating literature.
