For the second time in one day a car was reportedly stuck on the train tracks at Branchville station.
After 10 p.m. Friday police were at the station assisting with a medical call for a passenger on a train and a car was reportedly stuck.
Just before 5 a.m. Friday morning a car was struck on the tracks and had to be towed off. Metro-North police and crews responded and reportedly cleared the crossing.
The timing in both cases was fortunate. In the latter incident, the train was already in the station, not moving. The car was moved a little before 11 p.m.
Police offered advice Friday morning on what to do if a car is stuck on the tracks: Get out and away from the car and call 911, don’t try to get it yourself.
Coincidentally, on this day in 1887, another vehicle got snagged on the tracks in Branchville. “That afternoon Charles Brown is driving his sleigh across the tracks at Branchville when one of the runners catches on the rail and the sleigh overturns,” says an entry on RidgefieldHistory.com. “The horse does not bolt and Mr. Brown escapes injury.”
