Ridgefield Sunrise Cottage, a home to six developmentally disabled adults, has received a $10,000 donation from the Leir Charitable Foundation, given in memory of Henry J. and Erna D. Leir.
As in 2013, this grant will support social outings and life skills for the cottage residents. The previous contribution has allowed the residents to enjoy educational and social trips to Mystic and Kent and in Ridgefield. The group has also enjoyed a fun outing to the Westchester Dinner Theater for the holiday show. This summer the residents were treated to a Bluefish baseball game in Bridgeport. Residents also enjoy monthly dinners out at their dinner club.
This fall, the cottage celebrates 10 full years operating as a group home, providing comfortable independent living for the residents.
“This very welcome and generous grant gives fiscal support to Ridgefield Sunrise Cottage,” said Barb Tully.
“It is because of support from organizations like the Leir Charitable Foundation that the cottage residents have been able to participate in events that give them recreation as well as teach them life skills. It also affirms the importance of assimilating individuals with special needs in the Ridgefield community.
