Tanner Gibson of Ridgefield left in July for a two-year mission in Colombia (Bogota North Mission) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Like all Latter-day Saint missionaries, Mr. Gibson will serve without pay from the church. He and his family, not the church, will cover his expenses.
He joins more than 85,000 other Latter-day Saint missionaries who are serving in locations in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. They do not choose their area of labor, but go where they are assigned by the church.
After spending eight weeks undergoing intense language training at the Missionary Training Center in Bogota, he is now serving in the mountains in the small city of Barbosa. Over the next two years Tanner will have a wide variety of opportunities throughout northern Colombia.
A 2013 graduate of Ridgefield High School, Mr. Gibson attended one year at Brigham Young University in Utah, where his major is actuarial science. He plans to resume his studies upon the completion of his missionary service.
