Ridgefield and area firefighters reported to an early morning blaze Saturday that destroyed an Old Mill Road house.
The house, at the George Washington Highway end of the road, was reportedly vacant and a neighbor told police it may have been scheduled for demolition.
Firefighters were dispatched around 4 a.m., and both Danbury and Wilton sent crews, helping fight the blaze and to cover headquarters.
Between 6 and 7 Saturday trucks began to leave the scene.
The state fire marshal arrived around 7:10 a.m.
Fire Chief Kevin Tappe called the damage a “total loss.” The highway department was called to bring in a backhoe.
