The large parking lot off Governor Street, in front of the former Balducci’s store, is again open to cars and parking.
“I am pleased to report that the Balducci lot has reopened, 36 hours ahead of schedule,” Parking Authority Chairman Matt Hicks said Wednesday morning.
“It can be attributed to two factors,” he said. “We lucked out on the weather. And both contractors involved, Carroll Construction and We Do Lines, are small businesses, Ridgefield-based businesses, and they understood how important it was to get the job done as fast as possible. They had an incredible sense of urgency for the businesses, the residents, merchants, shoppers.”
The lot is owned by the Donnelly Trust but leased to the town for $1-a-year, like several other lots in the village, to allow town enforcement of parking time limits.
The work involved adding more landscaped areas and consolidating the entrances and exists down to one spot.
Work continues in the town-owned lot off Bailey Avenue. That project is expected to go until late October.
