Leadfoots beware, the Ridgefield Police Department is looking to catch speeders and they have the technology to help them do it.

Police Capt. Jeff Kreitz announced in a press release last Thursday afternoon that the department will be increasing its radar enforcement throughout town after receiving a highway safety grant for rural road speed enforcement.

The $18,190 grant will be used to purchase two new laser units, which will cost a combined $3,790.

The department also received $14,400 for speed enforcement.

“There will be no cost to the town, as the grant will reimburse all expenditures for the speed enforcement details,” Capt. Kreitz said.

The release added that the increased speed enforcement details will be at various locations throughout town during August and September.

The increased enforcement will focus on roadways that present a high risk based on crash data.

The goal of this detail is to slow motorists and prevent accidents, the report said.
