The Rev. Jerry A. Smith, the new interim minister at the Ridgebury Congregational Church, had an opportunity recently to meet with and talk to First Selectman Rudy Marconi about Ridgefield and about his own background and role at the church.
Noting that he had officially “retired” after a career of serving churches in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts, Mr. Smith explained that he had continued “to seek out opportunities for ministry” on a part-time basis and was “excited to be in Ridgebury” while the congregation searches for a new permanent minister. A wide-ranging conversation followed about town history, town issues, the contributions churches can make in a community, and their own backgrounds and families.
Characterizing the Ridgebury Church, at the corner of Ridgebury Road and George Washington Highway, as a “wonderful small church where almost everyone knows everyone else,” Mr. Smith said that he considers the church an “engaging alternative” for those who are seeking a fellowship-oriented, less formal feel, but still desire a “spiritual environment” that will help them “take their Christian faith and principles into their everyday lives.” He added, “We are ready to welcome and to serve anyone who asks.”
