Those looking to ride the train from Branchville this week should expect detours as the railroad crossing at the southern end of the station will be regraded and repaneled beginning Friday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m.

The state’s Department of Transportation will oversee the construction, which is scheduled to run until Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m.

“There will be a complete closure at the railroad crossing with a full detour for a six-day period,” the department said.

The detour, which will effect service on the entire Danbury branch, will be set up by the department of transportation’s contractor.

“They’re going to completely close the road, Portland Avenue,” said Police Capt. Jeff Kreitz on Tuesday.

“There is bus service being provided,” he added.

Drivers looking to park at the station will have to enter using the northern entrance at the intersection of Route 7 and Branchville Road. According to a press release, work will be confined to the Portland Avenue area of the train station and won’t affect traffic on the state’s highway, Route 7.

The release said that the repairs to the crossing were prompted by an emergency declaration initiated by the Department of Transportation.
