Upcoming great “photo ops” include summer fishing at Fort Trumbull State Park, Aug. 16.

Pack your camera, dust off your fishing pole, gather friends and family and head to one of Connecticut’s pristine waterways to catch and photograph the most spectacular fish for your entry into the photo contest for the 2015 Connecticut Angler’s Guide. The winning photo will be featured on the cover of the 2015 Connecticut Angler’s Guide. Other top photos will be published in the guide. Contest information and submittal forms can be found online at ct.gov/deep/fishing.

DEEP is looking for high resolution digital photos that appeal to a diversity of anglers and the general public. Submitted photos must be outdoor scenes that include one or more people fishing or displaying their catch. Images should be in sharp focus and have good color contrast.

Photos can be emailed to: deep.inland.fisheries@ct.gov.

“We have a wide range of excellent fishing opportunities here in Connecticut,” said Bill Hyatt, chief of DEEP’s Bureau of Natural Resources. “We hope that through this contest, we’ll receive a diverse collection of digital photographs that capture the true essence and broad scope of Connecticut’s fisheries resources.”

The Summer Fishing Event, an instructional fishing opportunity, takes place on Aug. 16, at Fort Trumbull State Park, New London. This event provides a great salt water fishing experience for anglers of all ages.

“Co-sponsored by No Child Left Inside, the Connecticut Aquatic Resource Education — Learn to Fish Program, and Connecticut’s Youth Fishing Passport, this day affords novice and experts alike great fishing for marine species such as scup (porgy), bluefish, tautog (blackfish), summer flounder (Fluke), and striped bass. All you need to do is bring the family, we provide the bait, rods, tackle, and instruction,” added Hyatt.

Andrea Repko, the 2013 contest winner said, “I am honored that I was awarded the cover of the 2014 Angler’s Guide. My photo truly represents the diversity of the hobby and the exceptional fish that can be caught right here in our back yard.”

A license to fish in marine waters is required for those 16 years of age or older and can be obtained at many bait and tackle shops, town hall, or on line at ct.gov/deep/sportsmenlicensing.
