Known for his hits “She Says” and “Collide”, singer/songwriter Howie Day will perform at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, August 14, at 8 p.m.
After sales in excess of a million albums and two Top 10 hits, Day is back on the road showcasing old favorites, as well as new material from his upcoming studio release. His energetic and heartfelt shows allow Day to connect with audiences through the strength of his songwriting and quirky sense of humor. Some call his music alternative rock, others say it’s pop rock, others label it indie rock. No matter the genre, Howie Day’s performances always impress.
Special guest is Eliza Paltauf, a young pop-folk-country singer/songwriter.
The multi-talented Howie not only sings, but also plays the piano and guitar and has won five Boston Music Awards including Male Vocalist of the Year (twice), Outstanding Male Vocalist, and Outstanding Male Singer/Songwriter. The Boston Globe called Day “gorgeously seasoned, far beyond his years” with “a brave, beautiful singing voice”.
The album Stop All the World Now and single “Collide” were certified Gold in 2005. Day’s warm tenor voice “soars into fluttering, high registers, but also grates with real, pleading grit,” as one critic put it. His first effort, Australia, which sold 30,000 copies and was named Best Debut Album at the 2001 Boston Music Awards.
During his relentless touring schedule, Day began experimenting with effects pedals and loop-sampling techniques as he performed, layering live percussion with vocal harmonies and guitar parts to become a veritable one-man band. Day released Sound the Alarm, built on the emotionally complex spirit of its predecessor and delved into Day’s journey from indie wünderkind to Platinum-selling artist. Day has most recently released the Ceasefire EP on his own label, Daze. He is currently immersed in the recording process of his fourth studio album, which he is crafting with the help of longtime friend and producer Mike Denneen.
