The 15-month-old Ridgefield boy who died in a hot car was left in the car by his father when he went to work, police said Wednesday morning.

“The Ridgefield Police Departments Dispatch Center received no 911 calls regarding this incident,” Police Capt. Jeff Kreitz wrote in an email. “It was determined that the father parked his vehicle at his place of employment in Ridgefield with his son inside.”

Police had reported late Tuesday that their department was notified of the death by Danbury Hospital staff.

“Ridgefield Detectives are still conducting interviews to ascertain the exact amount of time the 15-month-old was left in the vehicle.

“From the onset of this investigation the Ridgefield Police Department has been working with the assistance of the State Police Western District Major Crime Unit and the Danbury State’s Attorney’s Office.

“At the time of this release the cause of death is still listed as pending at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME).”
