Investigators haven’t determined the cause of a fire that destroyed a home at 25 Standish Drive Sunday night. The case remains open Tuesday.
“We’ve taken several samples and sent them to the lab,” said Fire Marshal Dave Lathrop. “We don’t know when the results will come back.”
He added that insurance investigators would be on the property Tuesday morning.
The garage is being looked at as a possible point of origin, according to Mr. Lathrop.

“It’s the area we’re concentrating on,” he said. “Some members of the family gave documented statements early Monday morning before we official started our investigation and everything they said led us to the garage.”
The fire was first reported as a garage fire, but when firefighters arrived they found much of the house engulfed in flames.
The entire structure — described in a recent real estate listing as being 3,944 square-feet — is being examined. Town and state fire investigators documented “every square foot of the property,” Mr. Lathrop said.
“We were there from 7:30 in the morning to 6:30 last night,” he said Tuesday. “We took photos of every room and recorded videos of the entire property; guys were in the basement checking things out.”
Mr. Lathrop added that firefighters wet down the structure before leaving and nothing was still burning.
The first call about the blaze came in at 7:34 Sunday night.
The family — a mother, father and three children — safely escaped with its two dogs.
The father was sent to the hospital but was later released.
