Jane Blumgarten Miller

Jane Blumgarten Miller, 63, of New Castle, Del., who lived in Ridgefield for many years, died on March 19, surrounded by her family.

She was born in New York City on June 26, 1950 to Bernadette Smith and James Blumgarten, Ms. Miller and her family moved to Ridgefield in 1957. They lived on Saunders Lane and Spring Valley Road.

Ms. Miller attended Ridgefield High School through ninth grade and graduated from Milton Academy in 1968. She attended the University of Wisconsin, earning a Bachelors in Anthropology and a Masters of Library Science. As a student in Madison, she actively participated in the anti-war movement and studied abroad in Aix-en Provence, France, where she met her husband. The couple lived briefly in Paris and Manhattan before permanently settling in New Castle in 1978.

Ms. Miller served in various leadership roles in civic organizations. After having two sons, she obtained an MBA from the University of Delaware and became a successful stock broker and financial advisor.

Ms. Miller was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Blumgarten of Holyoke, Mass., her husband, Dr. Mark J. Miller of New Castle; her son, Aaron C. Miller of Alexandria, Va.; her son, James O. Miller of New Castle; and five nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held in New Castle, Delaware.
