This is Opera! is the topic of a new course available through Ridgefield Continuing Education. Opera is all around us, in movies and on TV. The instructor will demonstrate that we know more music from this genre than we realize. The first part of this course will explore some show-stopping opera set pieces. The second part will explore a specific opera and its composer in depth. Participants will develop appreciation and understanding of some famous arias and music from operas, learn about famous opera composers and their unique place in history, and enjoy an in-depth exploration of an opera selected by the class.
Instructor Eleanor Dennis has a bachelor of science degree in music therapy and is a board-certified music therapist and licensed creative arts therapist who has taught folk guitar to individuals and groups in many settings, including SUNY New Paltz.
