Founders Hall: Life is a picnic

Life is a picnic when you have more than 200 pairs of hands helping you through. That’s why we celebrated our wonderful volunteers with a gourmet picnic, sponsored by The Greens at Cannondale. Collectively, volunteers served 3,656 hours in the past year. Some taught classes; others provided clerical help. Many baked, decorated, set up for or entertained at events. Member Joel Anyan gave over 100 hours to Founders Hall last year helping with mailings and data entry as well as event setup/cleanup. As Joel told the gathering, volunteering is a meaningful way for him to give back to Founders Hall.

Many volunteers come from the broader community, including members of the two National Charity League chapters, Scouts, high school students, and giving individuals. At the picnic, we recognized Mary Rindfleisch, assistant director of the Ridgefield Library, with our annual community service award. As leader of our book discussion group since 2003, Mary has impacted countless readers. “She exposes you to wonderful authors you may have never read,” commented member Meg Downs. “Our life is enlarged because of her awareness.” When the new library opens, check out the community mural for our tribute to Mary.

In addition to enjoying a delicious lunch catered by SandWedge, the group heard a performance by members of the Ridgefield Chorale. They then received miniature picnic baskets filled with chocolate kisses from a very grateful staff.
