A town meeting will consider two real estate transactions — a small land donation and the granting of an easement — that drew relatively little comment at public hearings last week.
The town meeting is Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in town hall.
The land donation is about a quarter of an acre, which would be contributed to allow access to a lot developer Joe Fossi is building on off Gay Road.
Maps show the lot as served by Gay Road, a town highway. But there’s no actual road there. This means the town could be required to build a road there.
“The town could have a liability to actually build the road to accommodate the construction of a home,” First Selectman Rudy Marconi said.
“Ballparking it, 200 to 300 feet, it could cost us $60,000 to $75,000 to build the road.”
As a less expensive alternative, Mr. Fossi proposed that the town deed the land, which would allow access to the new house via a driveway he would build there.
Mr. Fossi said easements to the Conservation Commission and Woodcock Nature Center would allow public access to nearby open space.
The additional land, Mr. Fossi said, would not be enough to gain an additional building lot.
The other proposal to be considered by the town meeting is an easement to allow Yankee Gas to build a gas line from the main pipe that goes down Bailey Avenue to the rear of the Ridgefield Cleaners shop in the Donnelly shopping center, which would like to have gas service.
The area is part of the town-owned parking lot between Town Hall and the Ridgefield Press building.
Mr. Marconi said the town was talking to Yankee Gas to see if the project might be expanded to provide a gas line to the generator that serves town hall.
