The Planning and Zoning Commission has continued a hearing for a two-lot re-subdivision on 400 Silver Spring Road to Tuesday, April 15.
The planners heard from the applicant’s engineer, John McCoy, Tuesday night, but decided to table the discussion so the town’s zoning enforcement officer could review the application that intends to split the parcel into two residential lots.
The 6.6-acre farm consists of a 1700s Colonial house and five historic accessory buildings, which the applicant, Tom Sturges, would like to preserve.
However, the Zoning Board of Appeals denied a variance that would re-establish the property lines Monday night, which will make preservation more difficult, according to Mr. McCoy.
“There’s still some desire to preserve the historical buildings, but clearly with the variance denied, we have to start looking at other options,” he told the planners.
The variance from the ZBA was needed because two of the four buildings are too close to the proposed lot line and all four would be considered “accessories” on a property that doesn’t have a principal use.
